Promethea is a living story, the remnants of a child in 5th century Egypt, rescued by Thoth-Hermes and taken into the Immateria when her father was murdered by the rising tide of monotheism. Since then, writers, artists, and other creative men and women have been able to summon Promethea and project her onto themselves or a loved one. Eventually, hosting the holy splendour of the imagination gets these people killed, and Promethea retreats back into the Immateria until she can once again save humanity from anything that oppresses it's dreams.

The final host was Sophie Bangs, a New York girl who had the task of helping Promethea preside of the Apocalypse. Thanks to Promethea's maternal guidance, most people got better afterwards, Sophie grew out of being Promethea instead of being killed by it, and ever since Promethea has been wandering contentedly in the Immateria.

Since coming to the Nexus, Promethea has made some dear friends, and as a result at the top of her breastplate she now wears a tiny gold My Little Pony style pegasus with a silver heart.
